The item I’d like to introduce today is our semi-flared trousers.

Trousers with a wider hem have evolved over time under different names — from bell-bottoms to bootcut pants to what we now call flare pants, along with changes in silhouette.

Unlike the bell-bottoms of the past, today’s flare pants tend to have a slightly roomier thigh and a narrower hem spread, creating a shape that feels more refined and contemporary.

Flare pants are undeniably attractive.

They make the legs look longer and leave a much clearer impression than familiar straight-leg trousers.

At the same time, they are also a shape that can very easily become too much.

Even when someone like Kendrick Lamar wears Celine flared jeans at the Super Bowl, it does not necessarily turn into a mass trend. That alone tells you something about the nature of this market. I had a strong sense that this would never fully become mainstream.

The hem only has to widen slightly before it starts to feel burdensome, and if the shape carries too much force, it begins to look less like everyday clothing and more like a deliberately styled statement piece.

For people who are used to straight trousers, flare still remains a silhouette with a relatively high barrier to entry.

That was also the question I held onto the longest while making this pair.

Could we keep the strengths of flare, while preventing “flare” itself from being the first thing people notice?

Could we create a different kind of pleasure in dressing not only for those already familiar with flare, but also for those who had never really considered it before?

This item began with that attempt to adjust the boundary.

The core of this trouser is not flare, but balance

The core of this trouser is not flare itself.

It is a trouser that does not stray too far from the impression of a straight leg, while still making the leg line look slightly longer and more refined when worn.

A trouser that does not feel excessive from a distance, yet reveals a buildup of subtle differences the closer you look.

Of course, I personally enjoy a wide range of clothing, but I was convinced there was also a real need for something like this.

That is why this item was developed with a silhouette that feels less demanding than a typical flare trouser.

To find that balance, I revised the pattern three separate times.

I kept adjusting the angle from below the knee and reworked the hem proportion that had to match it.

In the end, what I wanted to create was a silhouette that sits somewhere between a straight leg and a semi-flare.

In truth, even so-called straight trousers often only look straight when laid flat. Once worn, the hem tends to appear narrower by structure. This becomes even more noticeable as the thigh grows fuller.

By contrast, these trousers clearly read as flared when laid flat, but once worn, they fall naturally from the knee to the hem, with only a quiet, subtle spread at the bottom.

A good pair of trousers is not completed by the front view alone

The front view alone is not enough to explain this pair.

We cared just as much about how the trousers would look from the side and from the back.

At the back waist, we added a slit vent.

It allows a bit more ease at the waist when seated, while also softening the tension of the back view in a more natural way.

It also helps keep the trousers from feeling too much like formal tailored slacks.

The back pockets were set on a diagonal.

This was a choice meant to make the impression less static and rigid, and to help the back view fall in a slightly sharper, cleaner way.

We also chose not to add buttons there.

I wanted to remove as much excess as possible and maintain the most minimal silhouette I could.

The subtle morning cut — a small front-to-back difference at the hem that reduces catching at the front of the shoe — follows the same logic.

It is not a detail that announces itself loudly, but it helps the trouser fall over the shoe in a way that feels longer and cleaner.

A good trouser cannot rely on the front alone.

Only when the side line and the back view are equally resolved does the overall impression begin to change.

The fabric is used not to amplify presence, but to refine the impression

For this trouser, we selected a high-quality Japanese wool-blend fabric with stretch for ease of movement.

But what matters here is not simply that it is Japanese.

What mattered more was how the fabric would support the silhouette.

I wanted a balance where the trouser would neither collapse from being too thin and weak, nor become dull and heavy from being overly thick.

One of the more unusual decisions in this pair was the way we used the fabric’s front and back in a non-standard way.

Normally, the fabric’s face is used on the outside, while the reverse sits against the body.

This time, I chose not to follow that familiar arrangement as it is.

When the fabric was reversed, the surface texture and subtle sheen felt much closer to the intention of this trouser. At that point, I felt it was worth taking the risk.

Flare, when handled well, is undeniably compelling.

But there are also many people who have never really experienced that appeal, or who still feel it sits at a distance from them.

This item was made precisely to deal with that in-between space.

A trouser that makes the legs appear slightly longer without becoming excessive.

A trouser that makes the impression slightly clearer without becoming burdensome.

For those who felt straight-leg trousers were just a little lacking, but still found conventional flare too difficult, I hoped this could become a new option.

It is unfortunate that we still do not have a showroom where I can present this piece to you in person.

The making of ARCHENIS

It feels a little surreal to finally be writing our first item introduction.

If I think back to when the brand preparation truly began, around February 2025, it has already been over a year.

There are many stories I want to tell along the way, but today I want to focus first on this shirt itself.

The first item ARCHENIS is introducing is a semi-oversized shirt.

It was designed to be easy and comfortable to wear with a relaxed silhouette, but we paid even more attention to keeping it from looking like just another loose shirt.

There is no excessive ornamentation, and no unnecessarily complicated detailing.

A semi-oversized fit, dropped shoulders, and a single chest pocket.

Only what felt necessary was kept.

In addition

the sleeve placket at the back of the cuff was finished cleanly in a straight line without a button, so that the overall impression would fall even more minimal and refined.

But the more interesting focal point of this shirt lies in the fabric.

For this shirt, we used a 100% cotton fabric made in Japan.

This fabric is built through three layers of technique.

(As a side note, the amount of searching it took to find a fabric like this was no small thing.)

1. Compact 80/1 Cotton

   The yarn itself is fine, and the surface is relatively well-controlled, so the first impression of the fabric leans more toward something smooth and delicate rather than rough.

   On top of that, the use of a high-density twill structure gives the fabric a tighter, denser body.

   As a result, even at a relatively light weight, the surface does not spread too softly, and it holds a certain tension that supports the silhouette.

2. Chintz Finish

   Chintz is a type of finish that smooths and compresses the surface of the fabric, allowing it to catch light in a more defined way.

   Because of that, this fabric does not look glossy in an obvious or flashy way.

   Instead, the surface comes alive quietly only when light brushes across it.

   Up close, it feels distinctly different from an ordinary matte cotton, and in motion, it creates a much richer expression than a flat fabric would.

3. Silicon dipping

   What makes this finish important is that it does more than simply improve the appearance of the surface.

   It keeps the fabric from ending up too dry or overly crisp to the touch, while adding a subtle softness and resilience.

   That, in turn, helps the shape move more beautifully when worn.

Put simply, this is not just a soft cotton, nor is it simply a stiff shirting fabric.

Through surface finishing, it feels more refined, while the silhouette remains light but does not easily collapse.

As a result, although it is still a cotton shirt, it also gains a certain degree of water and stain resistance.

At the same time, however, it is not an easy fabric to handle.

Through its finishing, this fabric initially shows a distinctive subtle sheen and a more controlled surface.

However, after dry cleaning or washing with wool shampoo, that sheen can become slightly more muted than it was at first.

That is why, in this content piece

(which, to be honest, became much longer than I originally intended because of the nature of this fabric),

I wanted to show not only the freshly photographed state, but also how the surface changes after care.

I felt it was more important to show not only the strengths, but also how the fabric evolves over time.

As the fabric goes through these care processes, the initial finish gradually softens.

The sheen remains, but settles into a more subdued tone.

I see this as another face of the fabric that emerges with time.

At the same time, the more alive and expressive a surface is, the more every small difference in production tends to remain visible.

Because even minor marks or stains cannot be easily overlooked on a fabric like this, the standard of the production process itself became especially important.

In truth, this shirt almost did not make it into the world.

Because the fabric was difficult to handle, we ran into repeated challenges throughout the sample-making process, and as a result, the production cost increased significantly and the available quantity became limited.

Even so, there was a clear reason we wanted to stay with this fabric until the end.

That is why we did not approach this as simply making another shirt.

It was produced in Seoul through a skilled production line that has long worked with tailored garments and high-end contemporary clothing in Korea, and the entire process was carried out with the goal of preserving the character of the fabric while maximizing the finished quality.

It is certainly not an easy garment.

But when it catches the light, when it moves, and when it is touched,

the differences begin to reveal themselves little by little.

It is a lovely shirt.

It had to feel comfortable when worn, but not look overly casual.

It had to feel refined, but not overly tense.

A shirt that can instantly bring clarity to your overall impression, even when simply thrown on.

That was the feeling we aimed for with this piece.

I believe good clothing does not need endless explanation.

It should carry its reason even without being explained.

This shirt is one piece made with that standard in mind.

For now, we do not yet have a showroom, and it is something I genuinely regret that I cannot show the garment to you in person.

As this shirt is the first item introduced by ARCHENIS, it is a piece we approached with great care and attention.

During the main production process, we were informed by the factory that part of the internal label work had been done differently from the original intended method.

This issue concerns a variation in the internal label placement and stitching method. Fortunately, it does not have a significant impact on the exterior silhouette when worn or on the overall structural quality of the garment.

Even so, because the label construction differs from what was originally intended, we have decided to release this item at a slightly adjusted price.

The first image shows the issue that was shared with us today, and the image below shows the original intended label construction.

We wanted to share the confirmed details and this update with you clearly.

We hope this information will be helpful as you consider your purchase.

ARCHENIS plans to operate primarily on a funding basis for a certain period following its launch.

During this period production will begin only once a minimum number of orders has been reached. If that threshold is not met orders will be fully refunded and production will not move forward for that item.

Under this early structure, lead times may be longer than what you would expect from an immediately available product.

But this is not simply a conservative choice. It is a way of producing more accurately and building the brand on more stable ground.

Rather than forcing large production runs and growing inventory too early, only to risk burning out after a year, we would rather confirm real demand first and produce with greater precision.

We do not want to become a brand that appears briefly for one or two seasons and disappears. We want to build a house that grows older with you over time.

As the brand becomes more stable, we plan to expand into faster and more flexible ways of delivering products.

We will continue looking for practical ways to shorten lead times after ordering while keeping the same level of operational density and improving the customer experience at the same time.

Free exchange and return shipping during the opening period

ARCHENIS plans to offer free shipping for exchanges and returns on a temporary basis until approximately March 2027 following its launch.

We believe one of the biggest barriers when discovering a new brand is simple: it is hard to feel fully certain until you have tried it on yourself.

That is especially true for a brand you first encounter online. Questions about size, silhouette, and fabric are natural.

ARCHENIS wanted to reduce that hesitation as much as possible. Even use a lot of cost.

We believe the first experience should feel easy and comfortable rather than uncertain or burdensome.

That is why during the first one to three seasons, we have decided to temporarily remove the burden of exchange and return shipping.

From time to time you may see brands that do not allow exchanges or refunds on pre-order items. Before becoming a brand owner I was also a customer. I understand that hesitation very well.

Pre-orders naturally require more waiting than standard orders. But that does not mean the customer should be expected to carry more risk.

If anything we believe the opposite.

The longer you are asked to wait, the more secure the order should feel.

ARCHENIS may still be in its early stage, but we did not want to treat customer anxiety as something normal or acceptable from the beginning.

If someone is willing to trust the brand and wait, then we believe it is only right to offer at least a basic layer of protection in return.

As the brand continues to find its footing we will keep improving both the product and the overall experience so we can offer an even higher level of satisfaction.

What matters is not finding the perfect answer from the start.

What matters is being willing to try.

ARCHENIS plans to continue making both refined attempts and slightly unusual experiments.

From the fun ones to the strange ones.

What was planned from the beginning

From the start, ARCHENIS was never meant to remain within a single line.

When I first began shaping the brand, I already had three long-term expansions in mind.

1. Womenswear

From the earliest stage of planning the brand, ARCHENIS was always left open to the possibility of a womenswear line.

For a long time, I have drawn a great deal of inspiration from womenswear. I have also personally enjoyed and worn genderless pieces for years.

That is why the silhouette and mood ARCHENIS pursues have always carried a certain flexibility from the beginning.

Because the brand is still in its early stage demand is difficult to measure and resources are difficult to allocate with confidence. So we are not moving into it immediately.

But the moment we believe the timing is right, we plan to launch the womenswear line quickly.

For those interested in that possibility we have also prepared a separate waiting list.

If more people join and share it we will be able to move faster.

2. Accessories

The accessories line was also part of the long-term direction from the very beginning.

Jewelry and bags have the power to shift the impression of a look in subtle but unmistakable ways.

If clothing creates the overall balance, accessories are often what add the final grain to that balance.

ARCHENIS does not want to stop at clothing alone. We also want to introduce an accessories line that extends naturally from the mood of the brand.

It is a matter of timing, not possibility. This is clearly one of the next steps we are already drawing toward.

3. The possibility of another line

This part belongs to a more distant future, so I speak about it carefully. Even so, I felt it would be better to share the broader direction of the brand in advance.

In the long run, once the womenswear line and the accessories line have found their footing, we may also open a separate line with a different texture from ARCHENIS itself.

Whether that becomes a more elevated high-end line or another line that meets a broader audience has not yet been decided.

That decision will not be made through short-term strategy alone. It will come only after enough time has passed for us to see more clearly what direction ARCHENIS grows into.

What matters is not simply increasing the number of lines.

What matters is that each one exists with a clear reason and a clear identity.

What do clothes or fashion mean to you?

I was born in Seoul, South Korea.

I grew up in a way that may have fallen a little short of average.

I was so timid as a child that my parents once sent me to a public speaking academy. (I am not even sure those still exist now. 🫥)

From a young age I was not exceptional at studying or sports. I was not especially good-looking and I did not have a natural sense of humor either.

I was never the leader of a group of friends. I can barely remember anyone admiring me or wanting to be like me.

Being class president or vice president was never even close to reality.

I did not even know what I liked or what I was good at.

Other kids seemed to have something. Math. Football. Music. Drawing. They all had at least one thing they could point to and say, this is mine.

I had nothing like that.

Then one day at a very young age I felt a quiet sense of danger.

If this goes on I thought I will grow up to become someone with nothing to offer.

I had no natural advantage over anyone else.

So I felt I had to create one for myself.

Did you know that in nature it is often the males that are more visually extravagant than the females?

That gave me a clue.

If I could not stand out in other ways, then I would make sure I stood out in the way I appeared.

That became my means of survival.

Like a peacock I felt I needed wings.

Something visible. Something sharp. Something that could keep me alive in a world where I had nothing else that felt exceptional.

Obsession and trial and error

That is why I became unusually strict about clothes from a very young age.

Looking back I was probably the only middle school student around me who was obsessing over sleeve length, hem length, thigh width, and overall silhouette like that.

There were no smartphones then. The internet was nowhere near what it is now. Information was limited. Even so, I was already paying that kind of attention.

I never wore just anything.

I saved money little by little and shopped everywhere I could, both online and offline. When I did not have enough money, I bought vintage secondhand clothes or sold what I already owned so I could buy something else. I kept searching for what actually suited me.

Even before Dongmyo became widely known, long before World famous K-Pop star G-Dragon’s visit on Infinite Challenge(Famous Korea TY show) made it famous I was already going there to look for clothes.

I was also buying strange things at places like Doota and Migliore in Dongdaemun while older guys pressured me and took extra money off me. (Back in the day, Korea was a bit of a wild place, and there’s a bittersweet fact that friends interested in fashion in Korea are well aware of)

Every garment was approached as a form of search and experiment.

The turning point in my life

Then one day in my third year of middle school, a boy at school who was extremely good-looking and popular looked at my shoes and asked me

where I got them.

Why is he asking me that I remember thinking.

But once I explained where I bought them, what brand they were, and how sizing worked something changed in his expression. Then he kept asking me about the rest of what I was wearing.

That was the beginning of something people often call confidence.

By high school that confidence had only grown stronger. Friends around me began asking for fashion advice as a matter of course. The clothes I wore drew questions and attention.

By the end of high school, that confidence had started to affect everything else. My relationships felt steadier. My place among other people felt more secure. Even my focus on studying improved because so much else in life no longer felt unstable.

It may sound like a small thing. But if you know anything about being a teenager you know how powerful peer groups can be.

Teenagers may ignore what their parents say, but someone one year older can feel like a celebrity, a president, and an emperor all at once.

That is how much recognition from your peers can matter at that age.(Literally)

And building that first small experience of success became the start of everything.

After that — seventeen years of obsession, now with expertise

Later I studied textile engineering at a university in Seoul and added engineering logic to what had once been only a hobby.

After taking part in a national fashion club, I eventually wrote my graduation thesis on wool fiber materials. What had started as a hobby also grew into paid fashion consulting on the side.

After graduation I passed through a hiring process with odds close to one hundred to one and joined the Korean business division of a fashion affiliate under one of the top five business groups in South Korea.

There I continued building my own philosophy around what makes a good garment.

In the end I came to see fashion from three angles at once. Sensory. Technical. Commercial.

Fashion can become a lever in life

Through that process one thing became even clearer.

Clothing is not just something worn on the body. It can become a force that moves a life.

The way people treated me changed when the way I dressed changed. More importantly, the way I saw myself changed.

A well-put-together appearance gave me far more confidence than I had expected. That confidence changed my attitude, my behavior, my goals, and eventually what I was able to achieve.

That is why I learned very early and very directly that clothing can alter the way a person thinks, behaves, and carries themselves.

It is not just decoration. It can become a lever that shifts a life.

For a long time I thought this was simply my own experience.

But then I found other people saying the same thing.

None of them run fashion brands. None of them work in fashion. None of them And yet they all say the same thing:

Change your clothes and your life changes with them.

t is not just me. Many people who have lived through that shift say the same thing again and again.

The child who was short, bad at studying, timid, and always saying I cannot and I should not is standing here now.

That child started from nothing and still ended up studying engineering in Seoul, living alone on the other side of the world with no local ties, joining an important role at a global fashion company, becoming an executive at a small startup, and meeting readers who believed in my story enough to help an independent publishing project grow to roughly USD 66,000 in cumulative funding even when publishers themselves said it would not work.

And there is much more still ahead.

Because I know the force clothing can carry, and because I have experienced that force for myself, I know that every meaningful change in my life began with clothes that helped bring me into my best state.

I wanted to make clothes that help the wearer feel themselves more clearly and live in a better state.

I wanted to make clothes that could become the beginning of change for someone who still has not found their own weapon, just as I once had not.

That is why ARCHENIS began.

The ultimate clothes, ARCHENIS believes in

The clothes we consider truly good often hold opposing qualities at once.

These standards did not appear all at once.

They are the result of years spent buying and wearing clothes across the full spectrum from SPA to high-end. They also come from moving through different roles and different stages of life.

At first glance it may sound contradictory. Almost like saying hot iced Americano.

When I was younger, even a thick polyester coat priced around USD 50 could be carried by youth alone.

But over time, certain things began to reveal .

How important comfort really is.

How much material, construction, and silhouette can change the impression of a person as a whole.

You only begin to see it once you have lived through it.

And as life changes, so does your place in the world.

There are more moments when how you appear becomes something beyond preference. It becomes part of trust. Meetings. Networking. Contracts. Conferences. Overseas appointments. Hotel lounges.

That is when certain questions begin to take shape.

• I do not want to wear the same logo-driven clothes everyone else is wearing.

• I like refined clothes but I do not want to live in fear of ruining something ultra-expensive.

• I want something quiet but not plain.

• In the end, what I need is quiet completion with just one percent of newness.

That is why we chose to build value through pattern, proportion, material, and finish rather than through excessive decoration.

Simple on the outside. Distinctive in its structure and finish.

Clothes that feel good

There are certain clothes that make me feel particularly happy that I keep reaching for and that I’ve grown fond of.

In my youth I used to judge clothes solely on value for money but after trying on countless garments I realized that there are certain clothes that truly make me happy.

It wasn’t a question of price.

Clothes that I put on without a second thought without cherishing myself, or clothes that mindlessly copy street trends without any sense of personal taste, ultimately end up dulling my own sense of self, even subconsciously.

Prada.

Miuccia Prada, the woman behind Prada, wore a YSL haute couture dress even when she took part in protests back in 1970.

Even when she was doing the cleaning and mopping the floor.

It was the same attitude to life that I aspire to. From a young age, wherever I went, whether anyone was watching or not, I always respected and took care of myself.

That is why I love the suit culture of Congo, Japan’s distinctive fashion culture, the stylish elderly gentlemen of Jongno in Korea, and the Italian culture where people are taught standards of beauty from birth.

In a way, this runs counter to what modern society tends to prioritise.

Things like short-form content, disposable items, cheap dopamine hits, and trends that last just a week or two.

And I didn’t want to embrace that kind of lifestyle.

Back in my university days when I was short of money I used to do various part-time jobs at weekends or whenever I had free periods or spare time during semester.

Among these the uniforms I had to wear for event work were nothing more than tools to cover my skin.

I’m talking about clothes that felt like cold non-woven fabric.

They were merely for concealing my skin; I never felt that I was being respected at all. It even made me feel self-conscious in my movements.

The same goes for ultra-cheap clothing meant to be worn for just a season or two before being discarded.

Such clothes do not respect the person wearing them.

The feeling that you’re wearing them merely out of necessity to cover your skin unconsciously erodes any sense of self-worth.

The difference in stitching and materials hidden behind the label of ‘value for money’, was far greater than I had imagined.

The moment I first experienced a garment made from proper materials, my internal standards were completely transformed.

The moment I realized that a single item of clothing can determine a person’s entire image I finally began to see just how thoughtlessly my past mindless choices had treated me.

Contour Contemporary

The design philosophy of ARCHENIS is Contour Contemporary.

A contemporary language that builds the contour of the silhouette through pattern, proportion, and cutting lines over a minimal exterior.

It creates presence not through ornament, but through structure.

Why do male leads in webtoons, drama, movie so often wear shirts that fit close to the body but still carry a little ease?

Why do female leads so often wear clothes that reveal the curve of the body?

At the end of the day human instinct is difficult to deny. There is always a reason behind the silhouettes we unconsciously recognize as ideal.

Clothes that spread out too loosely soften the tension of the wearer and blur their appeal.

ARCHENIS believes comfort matters, but true distinction comes from revealing the line of the body in the right measure.

Our fit is generally balanced somewhere between straight and semi-oversized. We keep ninety-nine percent minimalism and add one percent experimentation.

These principles are not new for me.

They are the same standards I have spoken about consistently since I first wrote my fashion e-book in 2020 and began working in fashion consulting.

99 % minimalism and 1% experiment

At its core the brand carries the mood of minimalism. But we understand what many customers want as well.

“I do not want to dress like everyone else. But I do not want to feel completely alien either.”

The mood of ARCHENIS is future-facing and minimal. At the same time it is refined, bold, and quietly radical in its originality.

And that extends beyond clothing alone.

You can look forward to that. In time, you will understand what we mean.

So that the person, not the clothes, becomes the focus

Paradoxically we do not want the clothes to become the main character.

We want them to function as a tool that allows the person to shine.

Some clothes draw attention to themselves before the person wearing them. They are so saturated with decoration or graphic treatment that the garment seems to float apart from the wearer.

I have worn those clothes too. I understand why people choose them and I respect that choice. I know what they offer and I know the desire behind them.

But after many rounds of trial and error I arrived at a different grammar.

We want to make clothes that let the person come forward. Clothes that build confidence and allow that confidence to become a driving force in life.

We do not want people to live in service to their clothes.

We want clothes to be used properly as the ‘first tool’ that supports them most closely, every hour of the day.

ARCHENIS simply wants to make that role more valuable and more beautiful.

In the end a brand can only design the clothes. It is the wearer who puts them on, moves through life in them and creates the story.

That belief is not just an abstract philosophy.

It is a conclusion I reached after repeatedly witnessing how fashion can change a person’s life for the better through my e-book funding projects and consulting work.

At this stage, the pattern, design, fabric, and trims have all been selected.

From here, the process moves into testing whether the garment can actually be realized in the way it was intended.

And that process always begins with a tech pack.

A tech pack is the document that sets the standard for making a garment.

This is part of our work order. This is the type of document we will be producing.

It includes what fabric will be used, what trims will go into it, how the sizing of each part should be handled, what kinds of construction are required, and even details such as stitch count, angle, and distance.

In simple terms, it is like a small business plan for a single garment.

Based on that document, we move into either sampling alone or fitting plus sampling.

Fitting

A fitting comes before full sample making.

It is the stage where the garment is temporarily sewn in an inexpensive fabric or muslin so that we can try it on, check the fit, and make corrections.

In Korean, the word itself literally suggests a kind of provisional sewing.

At the fitting stage, we look at sizing, comfort, and silhouette. The goal is to catch the major issues early.

Sample

A sample is one step closer to the real garment.

This is where the design, pattern, fabric, and trims meet under conditions that are much closer to the final product.

We check how the piece fits whether the silhouette comes through as intended whether movement feels natural, and what still needs to be corrected on the body.

The difference between a fitting and a sample is straightforward.

A fitting is a faster and more economical step. It uses minimal sewing, minimal trims, and minimal fabric in order to check the larger shape and overall feel.

A sample is the prototype made before bulk production.

Repetition is part of the work

Good clothing is rarely completed in one attempt.

Sometimes the design itself needs to change.

Sometimes the pattern behaves differently from what was expected.

Sometimes the fabric or trims disrupt the entire impression.

And sometimes all of those things have to be revised at once.

That is why ARCHENIS tries to break the process into stages whenever possible.

Rather than jumping directly into a sample we first review the overall silhouette and fit through a fitting, then move on to a sample after that.

Of course dividing the process this way increases the overall cost.

But it also increases the accuracy of the garment we are trying to create.

In some cases a piece may end after one fitting and one sample. But that is rare.

Most garments improve little by little through multiple rounds of fittings and multiple rounds of samples.

Only after those repetitions do we arrive at the moment when we can finally say, this is ready to go out.

The garment shown above went through two fittings and two samples. In total that meant four rounds before it reached the level we wanted.

This is also why fashion brands are always working one season ahead.

In summer we are already thinking about winter.

In winter we are already preparing for the next spring and summer.

There is something strangely satisfying about having a profession that always asks you to move toward the future.

Main Production : Sewing and factories — why it had to be high-end contemporary

I am not a genius. I did not have connections. I did not start with resources.

If someone like that wants to succeed from the very bottom, there is only one answer: to work brutally hard.

I understood that by the time I was in the second year of high school. Since then, the central rule of my life has been effort.

Every opportunity I was able to take came from the same pattern. Studying while others rested.

Thinking longer when others moved on.

Lowering my head and walking in even when I felt embarrassed, overlooked or treated lightly. S

pending money if I had to in order to learn and create a chance. Walking through uncertainty every day even when the road ahead felt like fire and thorns.

That was the only way.

Finding the right production factory was no different.

At first I had no idea where to begin.

There were many places with low standards but very few partners capable of meeting the level our brand was aiming for.

It took time and a great deal of trial and error.

But eventually we found production partners who could realize the level of quality and sensibility ARCHENIS stands for.

The approach varies depending on the item.

For categories such as denim and leather where the process is complex and the number of variables is high, development and production are carried out with specialized partners in those fields.

What matters is not whether something is made fully in-house or through outside collaboration. What matters is whether the final result can reach the intended level of completion.

As of the time of writing we work with three factories.

It is difficult to share exact brand references, but I can offer only the first letters of some of the labels they handle.

Juxx.x, Solid xxxxx, Recxx, yeaxxxxx, Systxx xxxxx, Kimxxxxx, Sxx, Wooyxxxxx.

After a long process of searching and endurance, we came to work with partners in Korea capable of producing the level of quality seen in domestic high-end contemporary and designer brands.

After production begins

The work does not end when main production starts.

Even after the factory begins production, there is still a long process ahead.

Threads are trimmed.

Marks and stains are removed.

The shape is refined again through pressing.

Trims are checked one last time.

The garment goes through final quality control.

Only then does it move on to packaging.

Fashion can appear elegant from the outside. It can look like an industry full of beautiful things and smiling people.

But the reality is closer to a swan. It looks calm on the surface while beneath the water there is constant movement.

That is how a garment is made.

In truth the time spent actually designing is only a brief part of the work.

Most of the time goes into production, meetings, travel, moving fabric, revising samples again and again and again, allocating trims and fabric where they are needed, packaging, customer service, financial analysis, cost planning, marketing, and raising capital.

Through all of those processes an ARCHENIS garment finally reaches the customer.

What we want people to feel is simple.

That there is care and love in every garment we make and in every trim we choose.

That we do not compromise because I am making something I would wear myself.

And that this is exactly how we choose to present ARCHENIS to you.

Once the direction of the fabric, design, and pattern is set, the next step is choosing the trims.

They may look like small details on the surface, but trims have a far greater impact than most people expect. They change the mood of a garment, the way it feels in wear and even how well it lasts over time.

A different button, zipper, interfacing, or snap can leave a garment with a completely different level of finish.

When ARCHENIS selects trims, we look at two things above all.

First, safety and feel in the areas that come into direct contact with the body.

Second, the level of finish that reveals itself over time.

First: materials that are as responsible and sustainable as possible

Whenever possible we choose trims made from more ethical and sustainable materials.

That said we are not interested in greenwashing or in hiding the essence of a product behind the label of “eco-friendly.”

Becoming known for ESG or sustainability is not our main priority, nor is it the central purpose of the brand.

For an early-stage label working in small quantities insisting on sustainable materials and trims is not easy in practical terms.

Costs can range from one and a half times higher to as much as five times higher than standard options. From the standpoint of a founder that is a real burden.

Still my very first job gave me a wide view of how an organization moves and how a single decision can ripple through a company, its people, its partners, and society at large.

As part of a global consumer company I saw what it meant to operate under public attention. That taught me the weight of responsibility from both the inside and the outside.

There was a time when I believed success was entirely the result of my own ability. Looking back, that was arrogance. As I spent more time in the world of work I came to understand that my life as

it exists now has been shaped by the direct and indirect help of countless people.

And when you realize how much of who you are has also been shaped by sheer luck, it leaves very little room for pride.

The more years I spend working, the more clearly I feel it.

No one does this alone.

And if that is true then what we have received has to be given back in some form. As a business, creating positive influence is not just a preference.

It is part of the responsibility.

ARCHENIS may never become a brand that is one hundred percent perfectly sustainable.

I also cannot say yet whether every product we make will one day move entirely in that direction.

We understand the limits of the word “sustainable” itself.

We also understand how easily the idea can become empty branding.

If you take the question to its absolute end, even driving a car becomes hard to justify. Moving one human body that weighs fifty to eighty kilograms by putting a machine that weighs several tons onto the road already contains a contradiction.

Even electric vehicles are not free from pollution. Electricity itself has to be produced somewhere.

Still within the world we live in, what I can do is simple.

I can choose to act on what I believe is right.

That may not be a great innovation. But if it helps even a little — for someone’s health, for society, or for the planet — then that is meaningful enough.

Compared to all that I have received from the world, there is still far more to give back.

Hangtags and paper goods

Even for hangtags and paper packaging such as mailers and boxes, we use products certified by the FSC, the Forest Stewardship Council.

That means the wood-based materials meet standards designed to protect forests and uphold social responsibility through a broad set of environmental and ethical criteria.

Every garment has a label.

And the label at the back of the neck is one of the areas that sits closest to the body.

For that reason we only use labels that meet the OEKO-TEX Standard 100.

That certification evaluates textile products and all associated materials across every stage of processing to ensure they are free from harmful substances for the human body.

This is another area where we have no intention of compromising, even if the cost is higher.

Second: high-end trims

There are many kinds of trims that go into a garment beyond the fabric itself. Here is a simple introduction to the trims ARCHENIS uses now and plans to use going forward.

Buttons

For jackets and coats, we use real horn buttons.

They are expensive. But after wearing everything from low-cost clothing to high-end pieces I have never changed my mind about using natural horn for tailoring.

Horn buttons have a quality that only horn buttons have.

Like fingerprints no two are ever exactly the same.

Each one feels like an independent organic object. Something alive in its own way.

When you hold them or look at them closely it becomes impossible not to feel attached to them.

They make you want to treat the garment with more care.

For shirts, we use both natural shell buttons and resin buttons.

We use them side by side depending on the design and the intended function of the garment.

Shell buttons have a unique glow and subtle expression. Resin buttons offer more consistent strength and a cleaner uniform appearance.

When we choose resin it is often because many of our garments sit in a toned-down color.

In those cases resin can temper the shine of shell and add strength at the same time.

All of them are custom-made and marked with our logo.

But we do not rely on resin alone.

When the design calls for it, we also use natural shell buttons for the depth of their luster and the beauty they bring to the garment. They have an ambiguous glow to them. Something almost jewel-like. They are the quiet detail that lights up a shirt.

Truly good shell buttons carry a kind of refinement that low-cost garments simply do not have.

And like horn, each one has its own pattern. Like a fingerprint, each one is singular.

But every strength comes with a weakness.

Buttons on shirts and blouses are much smaller than those used on coats or jackets. Many are around 11 mm. At that scale, the smaller they get, the more fragile they become from a structural standpoint.

Natural shell also carries an unavoidable tendency to crack or chip. In that sense, it behaves a little like a tiny piece of porcelain.

They can break during washing, shipping, or even in production. That means we have to order and prepare more spare buttons than expected. Naturally, that raises the cost.

Even so, it remains too compelling a material to give up.

When the glow and visual character of shell are right for the design, we use mother-of-pearl.

For the best possible finish ARCHENIS sources mother-of-pearl buttons from two highly regarded specialists selected under very strict standards.

KOREA — 40 years of expertise

Our Korean manufacturing partner has focused exclusively on natural buttons for over four decades. They supply trims for high-end garments in Korea as well as export production and bring a stable level of quality backed by deep process knowledge.

JAPAN — 100 years of heritage

Our Japanese partner is a fourth-generation natural button maker with a history that stretches back a century. They are chosen by houses such as Hermès and Louis Vuitton as well as some of the world’s most respected shirtmakers. They are widely regarded as one of the highest standards in shell button finishing.

Both partners import premium mother-of-pearl and trochus shells from places such as Indonesia and Australia. Through each company’s own polishing process, they bring out the luminous quality that only natural shell can offer.

Zippers

The same is true of zippers.

A good zipper may not stand out immediately, but the difference is unmistakable in use.

When I was younger and only wore inexpensive clothes, I did not understand how important a zipper could be.

The smoothness of the motion, the resistance in the hand, and the durability that remains over time are things only someone who has used them can really understand.

Because both my work and my personal life revolve around fashion, I have spent years around better garments. Over time I began to understand why these details matter, and I promised myself that if I ever built a brand I would take them seriously.

That is why we prefer Japanese YKK over standard low-grade options.

And while YKK is more than enough for many garments, we also work with higher-tier lines such as YKK Excella from Japan, Riri from Switzerland, and Lampo from Italy, depending on the purpose.

YKK Excella

YKK was founded in Japan in 1934 and is known worldwide for consistent quality. Excella is its premium line.

Each zipper tooth is individually polished to achieve exceptional smoothness and sheen.

It is used by brands such as Louis Vuitton and Lemaire.

What I like about Excella is that it can feel slightly firm at first, but over time it becomes smoother as it wears in. That sense of aging is part of its charm. It feels a little like leather becoming yours.

Lampo

Lampo was founded in Italy in 1887 and carries more than a century of history.

It is known for a slender and elegant silhouette, rich plating quality, and a distinctly Italian sense of finish.

Brands such as Prada, Gucci, Balenciaga, Tom Ford, and Chanel have all used it. Like other luxury zipper makers, their products are often customized with the brand’s own logo rather than the Lampo name itself.

Despite being made of metal, it has a softness and flexibility that almost feels like fabric.

Riri

Riri was founded in Switzerland in 1936.

Its strengths are a satisfyingly solid closure, refined metal craftsmanship, and a slider design that feels distinctive in the hand.

It is used by brands such as Rick Owens, Maison Margiela, Visvim, and Bottega Veneta.

Riri has a very particular pull to it. There is a slight resistance and a sound that feels almost addictive. Even though it is expensive, that is one reason people continue to insist on it.

It has the emotional quality of true high-end hardware. It feels robust. It feels precise. And it feels smooth in a way that is hard to fake.

Each zipper has its own strengths.

ARCHENIS does not choose the most expensive zipper simply for the sake of price. We place YKK where movement matters. We choose Lampo where visual elegance matters. We choose Riri where solidity comes first.

And even that is not a fixed formula. Depending on the season, the design, and the intention of the piece, the choice changes.

These zippers can cost fifteen to eighty times more than ordinary ones depending on length, material, finish, and construction.

Why is there such a difference?

Polishing

Standard zippers are usually finished in bulk. Excella, Riri, and Lampo involve far more refined treatment of each tooth. That is why they do not feel rough under the hand. They feel almost silky.

Plating quality

Ordinary zippers tend to fade or lose finish over time. Premium zippers use processes closer to fine metal finishing and maintain their shine much longer.

Durability

They go through repeated testing and often become even smoother with use. There is a reason people say a garment may wear out, but the zipper remains.

Interfacing

I love jackets. Not only traditional suiting, but jackets used in a more casual contemporary way.

They are difficult to make. They are demanding. They involve a great deal of labor and many different trims.

But perhaps because of that, I feel even more attached to them. A little like assembling a complex model by hand.

When ARCHENIS makes jackets, we use interfacing. More specifically, we use a non-fused half-canvas construction.

Most jackets and blazers use a fused construction. In simple terms the shell fabric and interfacing are bonded together with adhesive.

That approach lowers cost because it saves time.

But there is a clear tradeoff.

When fabric is sealed by glue, it loses the ability to breathe. Over time it also becomes vulnerable to bubbling on the surface.

That is one of the clearest limitations of cheaper jackets.

A low-priced blazer made with low-grade fabric low-grade trims and low-grade sewing may feel acceptable at a younger age when almost anything looks good. But as time goes on it can begin to work against the wearer rather than elevate them.

A non-fused construction is different. It helps the jacket keep its shape and makes it more wearable over time.

It gives the garment natural volume, supports the way the fabric falls, improves breathability and preserves the jacket’s inherent structure in a more beautiful way.

At ARCHENIS we specifically use half-canvas.

It is not as extreme as a fully canvassed construction but it gives us a much better balance and shape than fusion.

(A full canvas is often found in expensive bespoke tailoring or in ready-to-wear jackets that begin at very high price points.)

Snaps & Hardware

I do not personally have a skin condition or a metal allergy.

But during sample production, a factory owner once mentioned that some metal buttons can trigger allergic reactions in certain people, even if the chances are low.

That stayed with me.

It made me think that if a garment is something worn closest to the body, then every part that necessarily involves metal should still offer trust and safety wherever possible.

So from the start, ARCHENIS never placed cheap low-grade metal trims in the candidate pool.

Instead, we spent a great deal of time looking for trims that could meet our standards for safety functional finish, and where possible environmental responsibility as well.

Our first principle is simple. Snaps are used in areas opened and closed repeatedly, so the structure has to be stable and the tension and finish must hold over time.

They must withstand repeated use without losing form. They must maintain the same closure feel over time.

To get there, we went through repeated sampling, wear testing, and blind testing before identifying the right snap partners.

Depending on purpose and design, we use both independently developed Korean snaps and Cobrax snaps from Italy.

1. Independently developed Korean snap — Safety & Sustainability

This snap was developed in Korea and holds both ECOCERT and OEKO-TEX certifications.

That means it goes beyond being harmless to the body. It also addresses environmental impact.

It excludes toxic substances such as nickel, lead, and cadmium, all of which are often found in lower-grade buttons. It also places strict controls on chemical use in the plating process. In that sense, it aligns with a more sustainable way of operating.

2. Italian Cobrax snap — Masterpiece Performance

We also use Cobrax, part of the Riri group in Italy and chosen by global luxury houses such as Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga.

The reason we insist on Cobrax despite the cost is its internal structure.

Its patented synthetic nylon ring blocks corrosion and reduces the noise created by metal rubbing against metal. Even after thousands of uses, it maintains the same smooth tension.

It also holds certifications such as OEKO-TEX, GRS for recycled content, and RJC, which relates to responsible sourcing and environmental standards.

What impressed me most was the way that patented structure resists rust and noise while keeping the feel remarkably consistent over time.

In truth, maintaining those certifications requires manufacturers to undergo expensive audits on a regular basis and keep production lines under strict control. That is one reason the unit cost becomes high.

But this is exactly the kind of difference that becomes visible not after the first use, but years later.

Of course, ARCHENIS does not use Cobrax on every single product.

I do not believe filling every item with the most expensive possible trim is always the right strategy.

What matters is not display. What matters is choosing the best option for the structure and purpose of each garment.

Still there is a clear line we do not cross.

We do not drop to lower-grade trims simply to reduce cost.

Small differences may not be obvious at first glance.

But over time they change the wearing experience, the level of trust, and the impression a garment leaves behind.

ARCHENIS wants to make clothes that are not worn for a season and forgotten, but pieces that stay in the wardrobe and become more convincing with time.

That is why we do not compromise easily, even on details this small.

Design does not begin and end with a sudden flash of inspiration.

It is closer to the moment when something long observed, long worn, and long accumulated finally takes shape.

That is where ARCHENIS begins as well.

Since middle school, I have spent years looking at clothes and wearing them myself. Over time, I built a sense of what feels beautiful and what stays with you.

What held my attention was never just which clothes caught the eye. It was which clothes made a person look better.

As the author of a fashion e-book that reached roughly USD 66,000 in cumulative sales that result came from something much older than the product itself — an obsessive passion for fashion that had been at the center of my life since childhood.

And that source of inspiration is still expanding.

I watch the latest global runway shows alongside past collections. I pay close attention to the way people dress on the subway, in cafes, on the street, and even in elevators.

There is always a gap between the avant-garde energy of fashion shows and the clothes people actually live in.

ARCHENIS cares deeply about narrowing that distance. We look for the point where ideal and reality meet in the best possible balance.

When I travel, I make a point of visiting local concept stores. I take notes on silhouettes I pass on the street and styling choices that appear when I least expect them.

I also draw from a large archive of images I have collected over the years. Since childhood, I had a vague sense that I would one day be in fashion. So I kept saving design references simply because I loved them.

To be honest I have collected so much that I often want to release far more pieces than I currently can. The only thing holding that back is resources.

Inspiration also comes from shopping, from revisiting garments I once wore, and from looking closely at pieces made by other brands.

Sometimes films help. Sometimes weird dreams do too.

And unexpectedly some of the strongest inspiration comes not from clothes at all, but from nature, architecture, and contemporary art.

I came to see these as valuable sources of reference so engaging with them has become part of my routine.

Still, design alone does not complete a garment.

There has to be another step — the step that turns an idea into form.

For ARCHENIS, that process begins with the pattern.

Pattern

When people hear the word pattern, they often think of stripes or checks.

But in fashion pattern also means the blueprint of the garment itself.

If design is the rendering pattern is the construction drawing.

There is always a gap between a rendering and reality.

A rendering always looks impressive. It always feels complete.

But once the work of engineering and execution begins, the distance between first impression and final result can be much larger than expected.

Clothing is no different.

At the design stage curves and silhouettes can look beautiful. But in actual production, they may prove impossible. Or even if they are technically possible, the structure and labor involved may lead to a completely different result.

That is why good clothing is never completed by design alone.

It only takes shape when design and pattern are working together.

Pattern work is a precise process of making design real.

It includes not only basic dimensions such as sleeve length or body length, but also highly technical decisions like armhole adjustment for mobility, shoulder construction for the intended silhouette, and balance through the rise and seat.

Even a difference of one centimeter can change the entire impression of a garment.

Pattern also has to be considered together with fabric.

The same pattern can produce a completely different result depending on the fabric used.

As we saw earlier fabric weight, drape, elasticity, recovery, and fiber composition all have a direct effect on silhouette.

Grading

From there the base pattern is expanded into multiple sizes through grading.

This is never done mechanically.

For each garment, we decide how much variation should be given to each area, which parts should grow more as the size increases, and which should change more subtly. In other words, the grading rules are set differently depending on the garment itself.

Only when design, pattern, and fabric work in balance can a garment truly come into being.

Not as an image in the imagination but as a real form.

That is why ARCHENIS never treats design, pattern, and fabric as separate things. We approach them as one structure.

This process is never the work of ARCHENIS alone.

From SPA labels to luxury houses, the overall process of making clothes is not that different.

But once you look more closely, there are details that make all the difference. And that is where things get interesting.

Today, we want to share how an ARCHENIS garment comes to life, from beginning to end.

1. Fabric

You may find it surprising that fabric comes before design.

Most people assume design comes first and fabric follows.

That is how we approached things at first as well.

We would begin with the design and then look for the right fabric.

But working that way, we kept running into the same problem.

The design would be finished yet we could not find a fabric capable of truly bringing it to life.

When that happens, the silhouette and atmosphere you first imagined begin to fall apart.

A design that looked strong on paper loses its force in reality.

No matter how compelling the sketch may be, if the fabric cannot support it, the piece remains little more than an ideal.

That is why, in most cases, fabric comes first for us.

Roughly seventy percent of the time we begin by selecting fabric and build the design from there.

There are moments when we feel a design absolutely has to be made, and in those cases we begin with the design first and search for the fabric after. But that is the exception.

Fabric selection is not about taste. It is about material judgment.

Seeing a fabric and thinking,

“This is beautiful.”

“This looks luxurious.”

“This has a great mood.” is not enough to arrive at the right result.

What matters first is something deeper.

How much stretch does it have?

Is the strength sufficient?

How does it drape?

How much sheen does it carry?

How does it feel against the skin?

How does it handle moisture?

How well does it recover?

Only after reading those qualities can you begin to understand what the fabric is actually capable of becoming.

Thankfully, I studied textile engineering in university.

That means when I look at fabric, I do not begin with surface impression alone.

I begin with structure with the general characteristics of each type of fabric, with mechanical performance and material behavior, with yarn count and twist and with the strengths of both natural and synthetic fibers and how those properties work together in practice.

Without that level of understanding fabric choices become unstable even when the design itself is strong.

Two fabrics may appear similar on the surface but one may fail to support the silhouette another may weaken the intention of the pattern, and another may produce a sensation on the body that is completely different from what was intended.

That is why ARCHENIS always looks at three things when selecting fabric.

First, whether it can express the design with accuracy.

Second, what kind of feeling and performance it delivers when worn.

Third, whether it aligns with the overall look and direction of the brand.

When needed we source already finished fabrics or apply additional finishing processes to stabilize shrinkage and improve mechanical properties such as sheen, water resistance and durability.

ARCHENIS primarily works with premium fabrics from Korea, Turkey, Italy, and Japan and so on.

But origin alone is never the point.

What matters far more is how deeply a fabric is understood and how accurately one can judge what kind of atmosphere and performance it will bring to a garment.

That method is something we continue to apply, refine, and improve through constant feedback.

We also avoid materials with unclear provenance or fabrics whose quality and fiber composition cannot be properly verified.

In other words, we do not use the kind of low-cost fabrics that sit at the foundation of cheap mass-market clothing.

Cost cutting always comes back somewhere in the process.

We would rather look for efficiencies elsewhere and maintain quality in a way that can be sustained.

We believe good clothes begin with good judgment.

And the first judgment is always fabric.

Sourcing — Premium fabrics in Korea

So where does ARCHENIS source its fabrics?

The answer is the result of a great deal of time, movement, and persistence.

And it is still an ongoing effort.

To secure excellent fabrics and truly high-grade materials, we searched for Korean fabric suppliers across the country and built relationships with them.

We also source at Seoul dongdaemun Jonghap Market the best-known and largest fabric market in Korea.

On average we visit in person at least once a month.

We look through new fabrics, speak with suppliers, exchange ideas about new developments, and often hear the kind of industry insight that only comes through direct conversation.

Beyond Dongdaemun, we also source from other markets we discovered through continuous legwork.

It is possible to find things online of course.

But this remains a world where much of the real information still does not reveal itself unless you move for it in person.

We continue this effort because we want to keep presenting better fabrics.

Because we understand the power of textiles.

And because fabric something I spent so much time around in my twenties remains especially meaningful to us.

That said not every option available in those markets aligns with the direction of ARCHENIS.

In mass-market environments basic fabrics and widely used materials naturally dominate.

So the act of identifying what is truly worth using becomes a process in itself.

There is no compromise when it comes to fabric.

Sourcing — Premium fabrics from abroad

That said, we do not rely on Dongdaemun and a handful of domestic vendors for all of our main fabrics.

Dongdaemun offers an enormous variety but more than eighty percent of what is available there consists of basic fabrics intended for low- to mid-priced garments.

We felt that selecting only from within that system had clear limits.

So in addition to sourcing through Korean distributors of imported fabrics we also source internationally ourselves when needed.

It was difficult to find the right overseas sources but today we import and source premium fabrics from three plus additional channels abroad.

At times, we work with fabrics from the same family of materials used by European luxury houses.

Not because of the name attached to them.

But because we know exactly how much a truly refined material — one with proven structure, density, expression, and finish — can transform the atmosphere of a garment.

In some cases these are fabrics used in actual collections by houses such as Celine, Dior, and Louis Vuitton.

That is as much as we can say for now.

ARCHENIS places greater value on materials that can produce a better result in limited quantities than on fabrics that are easy to repeat endlessly in large-scale production.

That means reorders are not always simple, and some fabrics disappear once they are gone.

But the density and rarity that come from a garment made at the meeting point of a strong fabric and the right moment is something we care deeply about.

(We also plan to expand our sourcing further in the second half of 2026 through direct sourcing in Japan, North Africa, and parts of Europe nearby allowing us to work with even more varied and elevated materials.)

How we narrow fabric choices

These are some of the swatches in our studio.

A swatch is simply a small sample cut from a fabric, used to compare possibilities before larger decisions are made.

We usually do not begin by bringing in large quantities right away.

We begin by narrowing the field through swatches.

Once we shortlist candidates based on category and design direction, we compare and review them again.

At this stage we are not simply asking whether something looks good.

We look at whether it connects naturally with the rest of the season whether its mechanical behavior can support the intended silhouette, and how it changes in actual use through water, friction, washing, and wear.

When necessary we wet the fabric ourselves wash it and observe shrinkage and changes in surface character.

And when more precise judgment is needed, we turn to testing labs.

Because what looks good to the eye is not always what will endure over time.

Having studied textile engineering I also have many classmates and seniors working in testing laboratories so these environments are deeply familiar to me.

For me fabric is more than a first priority.

Textile engineering is now a field that fewer people choose.

By the time I graduated, many textile departments had already been renamed or absorbed into newer disciplines such as advanced materials and semiconductors.

But I stayed with textiles through that turning point.

And my graduation thesis focused on improving suiting materials.

For ARCHENIS, fabric is not simply the first material in the process.

It is the foundation that determines the character of the garment itself.

People often say that good clothing is decided in the details.

But before the details there is always the long deliberate process of identifying the right material.

That is not a process we are willing to rush.

The name ARCHENIS comes from the Greek word archē (ἀρχή), meaning origin or beginning.

To that, we added nis, a word that suggests state.

Together, ARCHENIS comes to mean the first state from which all change begins — in other words, a point of departure.

We placed a belief inside that name.

It is the belief that the moments that change a person’s life often begin in silence.

Dreams and desire

What did you dream of as a child?

Maybe you wanted to make a lot of money.

Maybe you wanted to become a doctor or a teacher.

Everyone once carried some vision of the future inside them.

(I vaguely wanted to become an astronaut.)

But what about now?

Those early dreams begin to fade, and before long people find themselves simply getting through the day, dealing with whatever is right in front of them.

The list of things to do grows longer.

Responsibility gets heavier.

And little by little the heart is pushed aside.

When people talk about dreams, they often think first of a profession.

But we believe there is something deeper than that.

A more fundamental dream — desire.

What was it that you loved in the first place?

What moved you?

What were you willing to spend your time and energy on?

We believe those questions hold the truest direction of a person’s life.

What keeps a person moving, all the way through, is rarely the visible goal alone.

More often, it is the deeper desire beneath it.

And there are people in this world who never let go of that desire.

They live not only for money or reward, but in answer to something calling from within.

Some want to make the world better through education.

Some want to leave behind a distinct aesthetic of their own.

Some refuse to repeat familiar ways of doing things and instead try to set a new standard in their own way.

A companion for a creative life

The world has always moved forward through people who question what already exists.

ARCHENIS began with those people in mind.

The ones who hold on to what they love without waiting for permission, and who keep going until they carve out a path of their own.

The ones who, in doing so, end up changing the world around them.

We think of them as people living a creative life.

That does not only mean those who make something entirely new.

It also means people who think differently where they are, look for better ways, suggest directions that did not exist before, and create value through that difference.

Even when it seems small, that difference becomes a new current in the end.

And that current is what moves the world.

People capable of deep and original thought.

People who see things differently.

People who do not settle for the present, but continue on their own path until they create real change.
